Mark A. Johanson
Founder, President, & CEO
Mark has 25 years of experience in the medical device industry. Currently, he is Founder, President, and CEO of Audax Medical, Inc. He also founded Scandius BioMedical (2000) and led the company through an acquisition by Covidien (2007). He raised more than $20 million in VC ﬁnancing while managing all aspects of Scandius’s operations. He has 26 issued US patents in the areas of orthopedics, cardiology, biomaterials, and surgical methods. He is also a Founder and Director of Parios Regenerative Sciences, Inc. and Fortia Medical, Inc.. Prior experience includes Innovasive Devices (acquired by J&J) and Medtronic Vascular. He serves on the UMass-Lowell College of Management Advisory Board and is a Director for Summit Healthcare.
Robert J. DePasqua
Bob has 40 years of broad management experience building, restructuring, advising, and investing in early and mid-stage medical technology companies. He is an experienced CEO with 30 years direct executive management experience involving establishing and directing successful entrepreneurial organizations in private and public companies, including Founder & CEO of the Microvasive Endoscopy Division of Boston Scientific. He raised over $35 million in venture capital for a number of private medical device companies and lead a $36 million IPO while CEO of The Spectranetics Corp. He is an active independent board member for numerous private and public companies including two start-ups, Spinetech and Blackstone Medical, that were acquired for a total of $1 billion. Whitney K. S. Herchek
Director of R&D Innovation
Whitney has been an integral part of growing Audax’s technology to present. Her academic and professional work experience has been focused in biomedical sciences, specifically Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Prior experience includes Strategic Investment Fellowship at Slater Technology Fund of Rhode Island, Researcher at the Bioengineering Laboratory, Department of Orthopaedics/Brown Alpert Medical School/Rhode Island Hospital, and R&D Internships at Scandius BioMedical and Covidien’s Division of Sports Surgery. Thomas J. Webster, PhD
Dr. Webster is the chair and professor for the Department of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University. His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and study of nanophase materials for various implant applications. Materials investigated to date include nanophase ceramics, metals, polymers, carbon fibers, and composites. Organ systems evaluated to date include orthopedic, cartilage, vascular, bladder, and the central and peripheral nervous systems.
